Homemade Nut Milk

Homemade Nut Milk Almond Milk Completely Golden Recipe.jpg

Making homemade nut milk is one of my favorite activities, and so much easier than I expected it to be! After a few messy attempts (nut milk spilling everywhere) I have perfected the method and am writing it all down here, for you. This recipe will work for any kind of nut or seed milk. My favorites include pumpkin seeds, cashew, and almond. I used almonds in this recipe.

Others to consider:

  • Walnut

  • Brazil nut

  • Coconut

  • Sunflower seed

  • Sesame seed

Some tools that will help to make this process super smooth

  • Nut Milk bag- you can use a cheesecloth, but it won’t last more than a few times

  • Canning funnel

  • Big measuring cup with spout, or bowl with spout (use a ladle if you don’t have this)

  • Nutribullet or blender

  • Canning jars, or resealable jar

Ingredients- yield 4 cups of milk

1 cup nuts

4 cups filtered water + additional for soaking

Pinch of pink sea salt (regular sea salt will also work, but use less)

  1. Soak one cup of nuts in filtered water overnight, or for a minimum of 4 hours- keep refrigerated

  2. Strain nuts and rinse- they will appear slightly bloated and softer

  3. Combine the nuts with 4 cups of filtered water and a pinch of pink sea salt

  4. Blend for 15-30 seconds, or until smooth

  5. Prepare your nut bag and bowl with spout, place the nut bag open in the bowl- I prefer to do this in the sink, in case of spilling. Have your clean canning jars/bottles ready

  6. Small batch pours at a time- hold the open nut bag with one hand and pour in the nut milk, until a comfortable point. Take nut bag with both hands and begin to gently squeeze the liquid into the bowl. The remaining nut pulp will become dense in the bag- you can squeeze harder toward the end to get every last drop! Repeat until all milk has been strained

  7. Keep nut pulp to the side

  8. Pour your nut milk into your prepared jars and keep in the fridge. Will last up to 5 days

  9. Shake before consuming as the liquid will separate
